[Class 97 (iii)] A vertical and vertically-slidable rotary shaft b carrying the wind vane has bearings f, g, for giving lateral support and a bearing n on which the shaft b is rotatably supported when in its lowermost position. Cam rnechanism consisting of separable interacting parts o, r, and brought into action when there is no wind, raises the shaft b off the bearing n and causes the vane to come to rest in a predetermined position. As shown, the cam mechanism comprises a cam surface o on the bottom of the shaft b and an abutment roller r carried by a collar q on a vertically slidable, non-rotatable, shaft p which may be raised at will by means of gearing and an electric motor. A clutch y, z automatically connects the shaft b to a damping device x when the shaft p is lowered to the inoperative position.
