Abstract

Vat dyes are obtained by treating Pz-hydroxy-Pz-arylamino - pyrazino - diarylketone - o - carboxylic acids or their arylamides with agents splitting off water. Agents specified are sulphuric acid, methylsulphuric acid, phosphoric acid, boron fluoride and complex compounds of boron fluoride. In examples: (1) Pz - hydroxy - Pz - p - toluidino - 2.3 - pyrazino - diphenylketone - o - carboxylic acid p-toluidide; (2) Pz - hydroxy - Pz - p - chloranilino - 2.3 - pyrazino - diphenyl ketone o-carboxylic acid p-chloranilide; and (3) Pz-hydroxy - Pz - m - toluidino - 2.3 - pyrazino - diphenyl - ketone - o - carboxylic acid m-toluidide are heated with sulphuric acid to give products which dye cotton yellow-red or red shades; (4) Pz - hydroxy - Pz - p - toluidino - 2.3 - pyrazino - diphenyl - ketone - o - carboxylic acid or its 31.61-dichlor derivative is heated with methylsulphuric acid (red-yellow dyeings on cotton). Pz - hydroxy - Pz - arylaminopyrazino - diarylketone - o - carboxylic acids and their arylamides are obtained by heating o-diaminodiarylketone-o-carboxylic acids with oxalic acid to give the Pz-dihydroxy-pyrazino-diarylketone-o-carboxylic acids, and heating with aromatic amines and condensing agents such as zinc chloride to give the arylamides above referred to, which may be converted to the free acids by heating with sulphuric acid.
