[Class 39 (i)] Cumulative deflection of an electron beam is effected by two or more partial electric fields which are adjacent to one another and are of'the same frequency, the direction of adjacent fields being opposite at any instant. Cross-connected plates 1a, 1b, 1c may be used, e.g. in a tube used in high-frequency oscillography. In another arrangement, further partial fields may be similarly arranged so that oscillatory energy may be " coupled out from the electron beam.
