485,140. Torsional vibration-dampers ; springs. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Sept. 17, 1937, No. 25278. Convention date, Sept. 26, 1936. [Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Groups XXVI and XXV] A vibration-damper for shafts comprises an inertia member 52 secured to the flexible portion 64 of a torsion plate having an inner rigid portion 40 secured to the shaft and in damping association with the inertia member. The latter damping arrangement comprises friction plates 78 clamped between projections 54 on the torsion plate and the inertia member and a disc 68 carried thereby ; the surfaces being held in contact by springs 82, Fig. 5, carried by pins 76 on the inertia member and passing with clearance through holes in the projections 54. The inertia member may be built up from flat rings, whereby its weight can be readily adjusted.
