Abstract

484,913. Cathode-ray tubes. FERNSEH AKT.-GES. Nov. 10, 1936, No. 30637. Convention date, Nov. 14, 1935. [Class 39 (i)] An electron-discharge device comprises a photo-electric mosaic surface 6 scanned by an electron beam and a grid electrode 7 disposed closely adjacent the mosaic and maintained at a higher positive potential with respect to the cathode than the equilibrium potential of the mosaic, the grid being placed in position adjacent the mosaic supporting member 4 before the deposition of the mosaic surface is effected. The grid may be connected to the anode 8 and serves to eliminate deceleration and other disturbance of the electron beam by the mosaic potentials ; the deposition of the mosaic through the grid removes loss of light by the shadow cast by the grid. Preferably the grid is held in contact with the supporting plate 4 during deposition of the mosaic, after which the clamps are released by magnets, gravity or inertia and springs move the grid normal to the plate to the required distance. In this way the grid does not lose its alignment with the mosaic elements. The grid may be of silver, platinum, molybdenum or tungsten wire of 0À1 to 0À02 mms. diameter, woven at 10-100 meshes per mm.
