Abstract
484,635. Treating liquids with gases. AKTIEBOLACET ROSENBLADS PATENTER. May 21. 1937, No. 14191. Convention date, May 22, 1936. [Class (ii)] In absorbing or heat-exchanging apparatus, gas, e.g. steam or vapour entering at 17 flows up a tower between concentric cylindrical or truncated conical surfaces 3 all covered with liquid films and arranged within a hollow tower beneath and adjacent a liquid distributer feeding liquid from elements 11 in rows parallel to the walls so that each element delivers without splash to a single wall surface obliquely to the upper wall end.. The walls may be of stainless steel, may be perforated, e.g. made of fine netting, may have spacing members, and Slant at different angles or are parallel but are corrugated horizontally, the corrugations having a greater pitch at the bottom than the top, so that the cross-section of the gas passages decreases towards the top. The tops of the walls 3 have tongues 12 bent out alternately to opposite sides to catch liquid from nozzles or openings 11 in an annular horizontal distributing plate 7 of a liquid reservoir , or the plate 7 may be corrugated with apertures in the sloping sides of the corrugations to deliver water obliquely to the vertical top surfaces of the walls. The top edges of the tongues 12 may extend into slots in the plate 7, which may have circular grooves round each opening for water. The walls may be oval or elliptical in cross-section, and turbulence of gas between them may be increased by gas-guiding means. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91. comprises also vertical flat parallel walls hanging by shoulders thereon at the top in. a tower and covered with films of water by inclined nozzles, the gas being led off at the top immediately below a water container carrying the nozzles. In another modification, water is distributed from horizontal pipes perforated at their lower sides and placed or welded on tongues bent out alternately in opposite directions from the tops of the walls. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
