Abstract
483,624. Heat storing apparatus. HEAP, A. C., SHAND. W. L., and RYLEY, W. Aug. 7, 1937, No. 21827. [Class 64 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXV] In an electric storage heater, the storage mass 1 comprises slabs with electric heaters between them, arranged within a lagged casing 4 so as to permit an upward passage of air to be heated. An outlet valve 8 may be closed while the mass 1 is being heated, and opened to allow escape of air warmed by the stored heat. The mass 1 rests on an insulating block 11 resting on an asbestos sheet 12. A thermostat 17, controlling the electric supply to the heaters, is arranged in an enclosed space open to radiation from the mass 1. Cold air is admitted through an adjustable opening 20 so that the thermostat operates at any desired temperature level which may be considerably below that of the mass 1. The valve 8 may be operated manually or by means of a thermostat controlled by the temperature outside the building. In another form, the thermostat 17 may be placed in a recess in the block 11. The temperature of the mass 1 may be 500-600‹ C. and that of the thermostat 17 not more than 200‹ C. The warm air may be passed through a pipe system.
