Abstract

483,247. Slicing-machines. FITZPATRICK, H. D. (Berkel, C. F. M. van) Oct. 30, 1936, No. 29508. [Class 28 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXV] A slicing-machine has a knife reciprocating, in a straight line, past a substance holder, and the cutting plane is inclined so that the slices fall upon a slice-receiver. As shown, a disc-knife 10 is journalled in a carriage 13 guided for straight line motion by guides 14, 16, the knife being driven by a motor 24 through a belt 23, countershaft 22 and chain 20. The motor slides, during the reciprocation of the carriage, on rigid pillars 26, between the centralizing springs 27. The substance holder comprises an L-section trough 12, the feed being by gravity against an adjustable abutment plate. The adjustment is effected by cams, on a manually rotatable shaft, bearing against the back of the plate. The carriage 13 is reciprocated manually, a handle 18 being provided. On each end of the guide bar 16 a coil spring shock absorber is provided, the outer ends of which are anchored. In a modification, the reciprocation of the carriage 13 is effected by a crank and connecting-rod driven by a fixed motor, the knife being rotated by a sprocket wheel connected to the countershaft 22 through a one-way drive and engaging a fixed length of chain arranged parallel to the line of reciprocation of the carriage. A feed mechanism of the fixed adjustable striker and pawl type is provided with or without an adjustable abutment plate. In a further modification, the reciprocation of the carriage is effected manually and the knife is driven by a fixed length of chain.
