Abstract

483,179. Electric furnaces. UHLENDORFF, O. March 16, 1937, No. 7719. [Class 39 (iii)] A salt-bath furnace consists of a melting pot 1 with main electrodes 9 and auxiliary electrodes 12 extending from the top to the bottom thereof, and a resistance 15, which may be a carbon rod, arranged between the lower ends of the auxiliary electrodes. A layer of salt 16 is melted by the resistance and current then flows through the salt between the electrodes. More salt can then be added. The auxiliary electrodes are pivoted at 6 in the horizontal parts of the main electrodes and are removed by hand when the pot is halffilled with molten salt.
