Abstract

482,922. Spray - producers. JENKINS, A. F. March 24, 1937, Nos. 8703 and 8704. Convention dates, May 26, 1936 and March 1, 1937. [Class 69 (iii)] A spray gun is provided with supplementary nozzles for delivering tubular or hollow conical jets of air for modifying the shape of the jet of spray delivered by the main nozzle. Fig. 1 shows a sprayer in which liquid delivered by the main jet 52, atomized by air delivered by the jet 54, is flattened by jets of air delivered by supplementary nozzles 65. The supplementary nozzles are provided with centrally fitted pins 75 by which tubular jets of air are delivered. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the pin 75 is hollow and provided with air ports 84 by which a jet of air is delivered through the passage 82. In a further modification the hollow pin is provided with an axial pin by which concentric tubular jets are delivered. In a further modification the pin 75 instead of being centred by a head 74 is inserted in a hole drilled in the head and centred by a polygonal, e.g. triangular part. Further modifications are described in which the pin is centred by a collar perforated to allow passage of air and in which the pin is mounted on an enlarged screw head screwed into the supplementary nozzle. In the form shown in Fig. 13, the pin 112 is mounted on the nozzle and air delivered through a pair of passages 120 on each side of it. A bushing 129 may also be provided in any of the various forms of nozzle. In all forms the usual needle valve controls the liquid jets and the flattening jets may be controlled by a needle valve 36. The air cap 45, Figs. 1 and 2, may be formed in two parts ; the inner part 100 which is generally annular in form and carries the air ports 68 is secured to the body of the apparatus by a cap nut 49, while the forward part 101 carrying the flattening jets and central air jet is secured in a slot in the part 100 by soldering &c. The part 101 fits closely over the liquid nozzle 20 which is also provided with ports 40 delivering air to the central air orifice. The central air orifice may be provided with serrations or kerfs 80, Fig. 10. Specification 482,020 is referred to.
