Abstract

An alkali-resistant impregnating, coating, sealing, or lining material is obtained by adding to a melt of paraffin wax, wax, or pitch or like coal distillate, a small proportion, not exceeding 10 per cent, of rubber in the form of latex, at a temperature below 100 DEG C., and then raising the temperature to about 200-250 DEG C. to drive off all the water. The product, which is fusible, may be used as an impregnating or coating material for paper, e.g. as a lining or sealing medium for paper containers, or for lining other containers.
