[Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii)] The movement 21 of a continuously moving picture film 10 is compensated electron-optically when using a scanner having a storage effect. The pictures are projected on the photo-electric cathode 16 of a tube 17 with a fluorescent screen 18, and the beam of cathode rays in the tube are so deflected relatively to the motion of the film that the corresponding pictures on the fluorescent screen are at rest. The pictures are then passed to the scanner 23. Alternatively, the fluorescent screen is replaced by the storage electrode of the scanner.
