[Class 78 (v)] ,_Also in Group XXVIII] Apparatus for temporarily laying an electric cable, of the kind employing feed rolls 5, 6 and a drum 7 for paying-out and reeling-in the cable respectively, is mounted on a vehicle &c. by means of a turntable comprising upper and lower platforms 13, 17, which are each provided. with a bearing ring 14, 16 apertured to receive a centre swivel pin (not shown) and may be locked in any desired angular position by the engagement of a bolt 22 on the upper platform with one of a number of holes spaced around the lower ring 16, the lower platform being secured in position in the vehicle by adjustable flanged screws 18. The upper platform carries the drum 7 and the driving mechanism for both the drum and the feed rolls, this mechanism being similar to that described in Specification 469,620 and comprising an engine &c. 4 driving a pulley 2<1> connected by a belt 2a to a second pulley 3<1> mounted on a shaft 3 provided. with further pulleys adapted to be connected by a belt 9 either to one of two pulleys 5<1>, 5<2> on the feed rolls or to a pulley 7<1> on the drum. the shaft 3 being carried. on a tiltable beam 1 which is pivotally mounted on the shaft 2 of the pulley 2<1> and engine 4 and is provided with an adjusting means 8. The feed rolls are adjustably mounted on a horizontal member 25 of the upper platform by a sleeve 24 which is slidable along the member 25 and is formed with a socket 24<1> in which is rotatably mounted a pivot 26 provided with a socket 26<1> in which an arm 27 carrying the rolls is slidable, The drum 7 may be mounted on the platform 13 by means of a spindle 29, Fig. 7, which is supported at one end and has a welded-on intermediate flange 29<1> at this end and a removable flange 30 at the other end, or by a spindle 29, Fig. 8, supported at both ends.
