Abstract

481,815. Filters. MAUSS, W. Sept. 29, 1936, No. 26433. [Class 46] A vacuum filter having a moving filtering- medium is provided with means for building up the cake so that the solid particles are stratified with the heavier particles in contact with the medium. As shown in the Figure, material under treatment is delivered to a cellular filter drum through a fan-shaped nozzle 14 which extends the width of the drum and is provided with superposed vanes 16, slotted or broken as at 17, so that the solid particles arrange themselves in strata, the heaviest being delivered first to form a lower layer on the filtering-medium 10 of the drum as it rises past the nozzle and the lighter particles forming outer layers. Aprons 27, 28 are provided above and below the nozzle. The cake may be washed as it passes through a bath 31 and is detached by air pressure on to the lip 32 of a hopper. A scraper 33, nozzles 34 and a brush 35 may be provided for cleaning the filtering-medium. The application of the invention to a travelling-band filter moving horizontally over suction cells is described.
