Abstract

481,534. Vehicle bodies and suspensions. WEAKLEY, F. J. Sept. 14, 1936, No. 25041. [Classes 108 (i) and 108 (ii)] A vehicle body comprises cross members of channel form each carried by a pair of metal pillars adapted to be attached to the chassis members. As shown the cross members 3 for supporting the floor &c. are supported by pillars 2 each formed of two facing channel members with an interposed plate 2A and provided with a foot plate 2D resting on the chassis members 1. The upper ends of the pillars, which are formed of metal blanks, are provided with slots or grooves 2c in which the cross members 3 seat. Body pillars 10, Fig. 6, may project into and be supported by the members 3 which may have lugs 3B at each end to receive a hinge pin 3c for hinge straps 5 of side doors or flaps 6, 6A the hinge straps 5 of those flaps likely to damage the wings &c. being provided with slots 5A for releasing purposes. The pillars 2 permit of the cross members 3 being connected to chassis members of any contour.
