Abstract
An apparatus particularly suitable for the treatment of hydrocarbons and for the regenertion of the contact mass used in such processes comprises an annular reaction chamber 5 having heat exchange chambers adjacent to both its inner and outer surfaces 6, 7 and provided with heat-conducting fins 25a, 25b, 25c, 25d, on one or both surfaces and preferably extending both inwardly into the contact mass and outwardly into the heat exchange chambers. Two series of annular perforated distributing pipes 29, 29a are embedded in the catalyst respectively for the supply of the regenerating <PICT:0477846/III/1> <PICT:0477846/III/2> gas and the removal of the products of regeneration. The said pipes may also have alternative connections enabling them to be used for the supply and withdrawal of the hydrocarbon to be treated. Alternatively the hydrocarbon may be supplied from an annular distributer 3 situated above the contact mass and the products withdrawn at the bottom by conduit 10. The inner heat-exchange chamber may be of annular form surrounding a central member 14. The heat-exchange medium may be air, heated when necessary by the direct combustion of fuel in it; it may be wholly or partly recirculated, if necessary after readjustment of its temperature.
