475,427. Inductances. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE. May 25, 1936, No. 14700. Convention date. June 5. 1935. Addition to 467,574, [Group XXXVI]. [Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] The coils of the band resistance according to the parent Specification are provided with one or more iron cores for the purpose of damping any current surges which may arise more particularly when the resistance is used in circuits for welding. Two spiral band resistance coils a connected in parallel are provided with two laminated iron cores consisting of yoke pieces v and limbs w, one of each of which is embraced by the coils a. The middle limbs are slotted at y for enabling the current collector carried by the rotary arm z to be displaced by rotating the shaft x. The current collector and the parts x, z are connected to the iron cores, so that the width of the slot y may be reduced to a minimum and no insulation between those parts is necessary. The resistance coil may be formed by winding the resistance band and a somewhat narrower heat resisting insulating band together to form a spiral, the latter band assisting to dissipate heat from the resistance band. A number of resistance units and iron cores may be mounted in a casing 1 of perforated metal provided with a protecting cover 3, the resistance band being maintained rigid by bolts which are fixed to supporting members attached to the iron cores.
