Abstract
475,327. Valves. CAPEL, L. J. M. April 28, 1937, No. 12154. Convention date, May 1, 1936. [Class 135] A valve device adapted to function as a safety or relief valve and also as a draw-off valve particularly adapted for use with compressed fluid reservoirs used in connection opening devices for parachutes comprises a needle valve 7 normally held to its seat by a spring 5 bearing against a collar 6 and tensioned by a manually adjusted cam 10. The spring is housed in a cylindrical box 3 closed by a screwed plug 4 having a short spindle 9 cooperating with the cam. The main outlet is at 22, but the box 3 has grooves 23 to provide supplementary discharge passages when the valve is functioning as a relief valve. These passages are sealed by a sealing surface 4a when the valve is opened by releasing the cam. The cam is formed on a spindle journalled in a casing 11 screwed to the main casing. This spindle carries a disc 13 provided with a notch 14 to receive a locking bolt 17 and a lip adapted to be engaged by a hook-like part on an arm secured to the locking bolt shortly after the locking bolt has been disengaged, to rotate the cam and release the valve. The disc may be removed and the cam actuated directly.
