Abstract

10 to 50 per cent of a cement composed largely of sulphoaluminates is added to a hydraulic binding agent such as Portland cement, to compensate or over compensate the contraction of the latter during setting. This added cement is made by sintering a mixture of bauxite or clay, and limestone and gypsum in the preferred proportions of 30, 30 and 40 at between 900 and 1500 DEG C. It may, however, be incorporated in the final product by admixing gypsum with the raw materials of the hydraulic binder, say, Portland cement, and burning in a very oxidizing atmosphere, so that the final product contains SO3.
