Abstract

474,384. Aerials. MARCHONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and WELLS, N. April 29, 1936, No. 12212. [Class 40 (v)] A half-wave aerial comprises an horizontal top " which is symmetrically arranged relatively to a vertical down-lead, and is substantially non-radiating. As shown in Fig. 4, the down-lead 1 is connected to the middle point of an horizontal wire 4 which is equally spaced from two parallel wires 5, 6, the outer ends being joined together by wires 7, 8. Fig. 5 shows an alternative arrangement in which the two outer wires 5, 6 are not continuous. The arrangement is stated to provide a practically non-radiating " top " to a halfwave T-aerial, the down-lead of which is not less than one-eighth and not more than threeeighths the working wavelength. It provides distributed capacity and inductance, and is differentiated from known arrangements in which the " top " is either predominantly capacitive or is asymmetrical in relation to the down-lead. A similar network may be provided at the bottom of the vertical limb 1 to secure a desired current distribution.
