[Class 100 (ii)] Bronzing and the like.-In a device for metallizing iron bands or wire by first applying a coating of lacquer and then a metal powder, e.g. aluminium, the powder is applied in a closed space 3 by passing the lacquered wire a over a roller 16 immersed in a container 14 filled with metal powder, and the band a is subsequently treated by burnishing and polishing rollers 25 in the space 3 and then passed through a closure device 26 in the form of brush strips and led through at least two other closed spaces 4, 5, 6 in which are arranged rollers 7, 8, 9 such as brush rollers, buff discs, or the like. The spaces 4, 5, 6 are fitted with outlets 10, 11, 12 for drawing off metal dust &c. In modified forms of the apparatus, the metal powder is applied by spraying, or by means of coating rollers which apply powder to both sides of the band, and in one form the rollers 7, 8, 9 are arranged vertically over the rollers 25, and the band is led in a vertical path through the spaces containing these rollers. Air inlet pipes may be fitted to these spaces. The band may be guided on edge through the treating rollers, and the coated band may receive a final lacquering operation before reaching the drying oven in which the process is completed.
