Abstract
<PICT:0473625/III/1> <PICT:0473625/III/2> <PICT:0473625/III/3> Surplus liquid coating-material is removed from the mouth of a container by drawing air from the container so as to cause an inflow of air into the mouth, over the wall thereof, whereby the coating is caused to flow with the air current and so thin the coating at the mouth. The coating machine shown includes a turret 1 and a draining section 2. heated tanks 6, 8 being provided for the thermoplastic coating-material. The cans 17 are delivered into the machine from a runway 13, on to a conveyer 4 which moves them, by means of its posts 5 and supporting fingers 16, around the turret where they are internally coated by a discharge from nozzles, and then into the section 2, for draining. In one position in the draining section, the cans are raised from their supporting fingers 16 by cam rails 37, and are then moved over nozzles 44, carried by a rotatable sleeve 31 and connected to a vacuum chamber 46. Air is thus drawn into each can, sweeping across the outer lip and removing excess unset coating-material from the outer face of the lip. Any coatingmaterial caught up in the air current is collected by baffles 48 in the chamber 46. The cans are then lifted from the nozzles by an inclined end of the rail 64, and discharged from the machine. Specification 473,366 is referred to.
