Abstract

An emulsifiable composition for assisting the dyeing of textile fabrics and yarns, e.g. by preventing "bleeding," is obtained by mixing fats and/or oils, or the corresponding fatty acids with a high melting paraffin fraction such as ozokerite or paraffin wax and a saponifiable vegetable or animal wax, e.g. spermaceti, montan wax or wool wax and heating with a dehydrating agent, e.g. fused zinc chloride, ferric chloride or aluminium chloride until the colour becomes blackish and dark particles separate. The clear oil is separated from the residue and is treated to saponify the fats, fatty acids and waxes present. After cooling, the mass may be emulsified with water with the aid of a protective colloid, e.g. casein rendered soluble with boric acid and ammonia, and also a non-volatile water-soluble organic compound containing nitrogen and/or sulphur, such as hippuric acid, neurine, betaine or albuminoid products, e.g. egg-white or glue may be added.ALSO:An emulsifiable composition for preserving and waterproofing textile fabrics and yarns and assisting in the dyeing of such materials is obtained by mixing fats and/or oils, or the corresponding fatty acids with a high melting paraffin fraction such as ozokerite or paraffin wax and a saponifiable vegetable or animal wax and heating it with a dehydrating agent e.g. fused zinc chloride, ferric chloride or aluminium chloride until the colour becomes blackish and dark particles separate. The clear oil is separated from the residue and is treated to saponify the fats, fatty acids and waxes present. After cooling, the mass may be emulsified with water with the aid of a protective colloid, e.g. casein rendered soluble with boric acid and ammonia, and also a nonvolatile water-soluble organic compound containing nitrogen and/or sulphur, such as hippuric acid, neurine, betaine or albuminoid products, e.g. egg-white or glue may be added. The emulsion is made by heating to nearly 100 DEG C. combined with stirring, e.g. in a homogenizer. An example describes the production of a composition from 50 pts. oleic acid, or olein, 25 pts. paraffin wax, 25 pts. ozokerite and 25 pts. of spermaceti, montan wax or wool wax by treatment with zinc chloride at 73--80 DEG C. The resultant oil is saponified with caustic soda at 240--260 DEG C., and 6 pts. of the saponified mass are emulsified with 5 pts. casein, 0,15 pts. boric acid and 0,15 pts. hippuric acid in 100 pts. of water. The textile material is treated with this emulsion in a padding machine and subsequently treated with aluminium acetate solution at 9 DEG Tw. at about 45 DEG C. for eight to ten minutes. The material is then washed, dried, calendered and finished.
