Abstract
472,214. Microphones. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Jan. 6, 1937, No. 424. Convention date, Sept. 17, 1936. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] A moving-coil microphone for producing modulated carrier waves, comprises crossed coils a, b pivoted in the field of a coil L excited by the carrier wave source E. A spring- centred diaphragm is arranged to rock the coils on their pivot when vibrated by sound waves. The coils a, b are tuned to the carrier wave by condensers C1, C2; and their circuits are mutually coupled by coils M. Phasemodulated waves in quadrature with each other appear at the terminals 1, 2 and 3, 4 ; and they may be combined with each other to give an amplitude-modulated wave. In a modification, Fig. 8, the moving coils L3, L4 are parallel and co-axial, and are given an axial vibratory movement by the diaphragm. The fixed coil L is in two parallel sections axially displaced, one moving coil L4 being within one section L2 of the fixed coil, and the other moving coil L3 being half-way between the two sections L1, L2, of the fixed coil.
