[Class 117] [Also in Groups X and XIX] Fig. 1 shows screens 3 supported by a large number of helical springs 9, 11 in compression arranged in rows above and below the screen frame and bearing on the fixed structure. Vibratory movement is imparted to the screens by a crank or eccentric 15 and a resilient connecting rod formed by bowed springs or connected to the screen frame by resilient coupling means. Alternatively, the actuating means may comprise double-acting cams or rotary eccentric weights. As shown, two screens are connected by a lever 17 and links so as to move in opposite phase for balancing purposes and the actuating force is applied to one of them. Fig. 7 shows a pneumatic coal-cleaning apparatus in which the air pervious table 38 is suspended from a member supported on springs 29 on the stationary structure. The air box 30, connected to the table by a flexible bellows 33 and having flap valves 32 is also supported on springs. Motion is imparted to both the table and the air box by an eccentric or crank-shaft 34 and connecting rods 35. Fig. 5 shows a concrete tamping device in which the shoe 24 is given a tamping and stepby-step progressing movement by the reaction of a member supported on springs on the shoe frame and vibrated by a crank and connecting rod mechanism mounted thereon. A device for testing springs is referred to in which the springs are placed between a vibrating plate and fixed plate which may be adjustable by rods and nuts. The Specification also refers to the application of spring-mounted vibrating bodies to devices such as crushers, pile-drivers and mechanical loaders, but, in this respect, the description does not admit of satisfactory abridgment.
