Abstract

471,170. Printers' blankets. TENNANT, W. J. (Carborundum Co.) Feb. 28, 1936, No. 16613/35. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, March 20, 1936.] [Class 100 (ii)] A printers' blanket, for use in connection with a non-resilient overlay, is formed with an under layer 4 which is impervious to ink, and protects the make-ready on the impression roll. The layer 4 is formed of a cellulosic material, such as pure cellulose or a cellulose ester, or a resin, or a metallic foil such as aluminium, copper, or zinc. The layer 4 is secured by adhesive, or otherwise, to an absorbent top sheet 5 having a capacity of retaining ink and oil and a coating 6 of granular material is glued to the top sheet. A coating of fine silicon carbide or emery is preferably used, and this may be applied to the sheet 5 before this is secured to the ink barrier 4. The layer 4 may be secured to the impression roll separately from the other single or compound layers. When a granule-coated layer 5 is used it is preferably passed between pressure rollers before use, and the compound blanket is also preferably flexed before use in order to crack evenly the adhesive which secures the granules in place.
