Abstract

469,956. Railway chairs and sleepers. WILLIAMS, L. WYNN-. Feb. 5, 1936, No. 3495. [Class 104 (ii)] A one-piece unit for switch mechanism comprises a sole plate 1, a pair of buttresses 2 which may be united to the plate 1 by welding at 4, and a pair of slide plates 3 which may be welded at points 14, 15 to the plate 1. The stock rails are secured to the buttresses 2 by bolts 9, and bolsters 5 may be interposed to give the rails the desired inclination. The nut 10 of the bolt 9 mav bear on an inclined casting on the buttress corresponding to the inclination of the rail, and distance pieces 12 may be placed between the bolsters and buttresses for gauge adjustment. The soleplate 1 is secured to wooden sleepers by tapered screws 17 engaging tapered holes in the plate 1, and the plate may have projections on the underface which sink into the wooden sleepers.
