469,696. Heating sealing-devices by electromagnetic induction. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO. Oct. 30, 1935, No. 13341/36. Convention date, Aug. 14, 1935. Divided out of 452,744. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XVII] Means for sealing or securing the folded portions of the wrapper of an article by the application of heat as the article is advanced along a rectilinear path, particularly a wrapper of waxed paper or other material in a bread-wrapping machine, consists of a sealing element of electrically conducting material presenting a plane elongated sealing surface for direct engagement with the wrapper, and means for producing a flow of electric current within the element. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the sealing element is an endless belt 23 driven over insulating pulleys 22, 24 and forming a single turn secondary winding of a transformer with a primary winding 56 and core 57. The belt may be a flexible metallic belt, or a flexible wire fabric belt consisting of an endless series of transverse wire coils 50, Fig. 3, interlocked by transverse rods 51. As applied to a wrapping- machine, a pair of belts 23 are arranged parallel to receive the articles in between, and may be supported for adjustment to suit different lengths of packages, as described in connection with the heated sealing-belts described in Specification 452,744.
