Abstract

467,994. Floors ; roofs ; girders. McALPINE, SIR M. Dec. 27, 1935, No. 35864. [Class 20 (iv)] A reinforced-concrete floor or roof comprises concrete cast in situ on a decking of pre-cast reinforced-concrete slabs c supported at their ends on landings b, which are provided on each side of main beams a below the upper face thereof and at such a distance from the centre of the beams as to provide spaces for the reception of the projecting ends of .the reinforcing bars d of the slabs c, the bars d being adapted to provide the principal reinforcement of the structure and the slabs being of sufficient strength only to support their own weight and that of the concrete e which is cast thereover to the thickness required to give the structure the required strength. The beams a may be of reinforced concrete, or of steel having side portions of concrete cast around the lower flange so as to form the landings b, as shown in Fig. 3. The beams a may be supported at the ends on walls g, each of which is provided below the level of the undersurface of the beams with a landing h to support the lower ends of slabs i disposed in inclined position with their upper ends resting against the side of the adjacent deck slab c. The reinforcement of the slabs i also projects into the concrete e. The space beneath each beam a, adjacent a wall g, is filled with a slab k which coacts with the adjacent slabs i. The projecting reinforcement d of the slabs c is anchored in position by stirrup bars n projecting from the concrete of the main beams a.
