Abstract

467,884. Parachutes. MASTROSANTI, R. Oct. 24, 1936, No. 28989. Convention date, Oct. 24, 1935. [Class 4] A parachute comprises concentric inner and outer chambers, each open at the bottom and provided with an apical vent or vents. As shown, a parachute comprises truncated conical surfaces 1, 2 arranged as shown and connected to a semi-torus surface 3. Air vents e are formed by semi-conical puckers in either surface 2 or 3 ; a further air vent e<c> is provided. Shroud lines 6, which may be sixteen in number, are connected to an axially-disposed cord 8, to the lower end of which is connected shroud lines 9 having a length equal to the combined length of the cords 6, 8. The canopy is reinforced by radially disposed tapes which are secured to the canopy between the points of attachment of the shroud lines. The vent e<c> is provided with diametrically disposed cords which are centrally connected to the static-line 13 or to a pilot parachute and to a cord 14 which is connected at its other end to the junction of the shroud lines 6. Descent may be controlled by means of a cord 15. In modifications, the surface 1, 3 may be part spherical and the surface 2 may be a portion of a torus.
