Abstract

467,326. Regulating flow of fluids. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 16, 1937, No. 1383. Convention date, Jan. 18, 1936. [Class 135] A flow-control device between the high- and lowpressure sides of a refrigerating system, comprises a sinuous passage 25, 26, Fig. 2, or 126, 127, Fig. 5, with pockets 27 or 128 formed at the re-entrant bends. In Fig. 2 the passage is formed by a sinuous indentation in a metal sheet backed by a plain metal sheet, both sheets having, at the ends of the passage, larger indentations 31 to which the tubes 16 18 are attached. In Fig. 5, the passage is formed by a sinuous slot in a metal sheet on each face of which a plain metal sheet is secured. In Fig. 7 (not shown), the sinuous slot is discontinuous, the gaps being bridged by indentations in one of the plain sheets. The device is preferably coiled, with intervening thermal insulation 33. The device permits a sufficient flow of liquid refrigerant while substantially preventing flow of vaporized refrigerant.
