Abstract

464,650. Washing granular materials. POOL, T. A. Nov. 12, 1935, No. 31264. [Class 82 (ii)] In a rotary washing and screening -machine for gravel &c. comprising a washing part at the inlet end, a screening part at the outlet end, and a lifting device between the washing and screening parts, the washing part consists of a series of concentric imperforate cylinders, e.g. the three cylinders 5, 6, 7, having transporting blades 12 in their interiors. The outlet from each cylinder leads into the next, the material being carried in opposite directions in adjacent cylinders. In the outer cylinder 5 the material is carried towards the lifting device which comprises curved plates 15, Figs. 1 and 3, each with a deflecting side plate 16 to guide the material into the innermost screen 21 of the screening part of the machine which comprises a series of concentric screens, e.g. the three screens 21, 20, 19, Figs. 1 and 4, each provided with transporting blades 23. A perforated water pipe 14 is provided extending the whole length of the machine and branch pipes 24, 25, may be provided between the concentric screens. A branch pipe 140 is preferably used to direct a strong jet of clean water on the material at the end of the outer cylinder 5. Water drains from the cylinder 5 through the outlets 13.
