463,746. Sintering ores. HOLMBERG, A. Nov. 25, 1935, No. 32634. Convention date, Jan. 25. [Class 82 (i)] In a process for making a sinter product for subsequent reduction, from concentrates, ores, &c., the particles are forced under pressure through a combustion zone against a wall or the like so that the particles are cemented together into a sinter cake which is removed in order to be subjected to a metallurgical reduction process. A heating chamber 2 is provided with an oil, coal, powder or other burner 2 and the material from a container 5 is forced into the chamber through an intake 4. Preheated air for this purpose is passed into the conduit 6 from a fan 7, the air being heated by exhaust gases from the sinter box 8 which pass through a conduit 12 into a heater 13. Part of the preheated air passes through a conduit 14 to heat the material in the container 5. The material passing from the heating chamber 2 is forced against a wall 9 of the sinter box, the wall being perforated for the admission of air for oxidation and desulphuration. The sinter cake is discharged into a pocket 16. In a modification, the material falls on to the floor of the sinter box consisting preferably of a travelling grate through which air is forced.
