[Class 38 (iii)] [Also in Groups XX and XXXV] Means for driving a flexible strip 1, such as a sound-film, at constant speed and under a constant tension comprises a pair of reels 2, 3, upon which are wound the ends of the strip and a driving drum 8, rotated by a synchronous motor 10, which is situated intermediate the reels and which drives the strip in either direction. The reels are respectively mounted on the shafts of two independent induction motors 5, 7, which exert torques tending to tension the portions of the strip between the driving drum and winding reels, the torque-speed characteristic of the motors being such that the tension is maintained constant. The rotor or stator circuits of the induction motors are provided with inductance and capacitance which produce resonance at approximately zero motor speed.
