[Class 12 (i)] A high - speed tool spindle b is mounted in roller bearings e and in a sliding bearing m arranged radially of one another, the sliding bearing sleeve m being rotated so that the oil film between the sliding-bearing surfaces damps vibration of the shaft b. As shown the tool spindle b and sleeve m are rotated from a shaft p through friction gearing. In a modification the sleeve m is arranged between the roller bearings e and the spindle b.
