Abstract

461,203. Control systems for electromagnets. EQUIPMENT & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and SWIFT, H. B. Oct. 11, 1935, No. 28032. [Classes 35 and 38 (iv)] [Also in Groups XXIII and XXXVI] Condenser arrangements; switching control.-The remanent magnetism of a magnetic chuck, lifting- grab, or flaw-detecting device is neutralized by passing the discharge current of a condenser through the winding of the apparatus, a switch being provided to enable the condenser to be charged when the winding is energized and to reverse the connections between the winding and condenser when the supply is disconnected. In the form shown, the winding A of the electromagnetic device is energized from the supply and the condenser E is connected in parallel with it when the switch B is thrown upwards. When the switch is thrown downwards to disconnect the winding from the supply, the condenser is connected across the winding but with its connections reversed so that the condenser discharge current demagnetizes the material. Additional condensers may be used if required. Instead of the switch shown, a hand or foot operated frum switch may be used.
