Abstract
461,126. Electrodeposition of nickelcobalt alloys. HINRICHSEN, O. May 10, 1935, Nos. 13784/35 and 13076/36. [Class 41] A bath containing formic acid and/or formates is employed for the deposition of bright platings. The bath may also contain small quantities of a mixture of glycerine and alcohol. A suitable composition is nickel sulphate 150-300 gms., cobalt sulphate 15- 40 gms., sodium formate 10-60 gms., boric acid 15-40 gms., nickel chloride 15-25 gms., sodium sulphate 25-80 gms. per litre. The pH value should be 4À1-5À1. The bath is maintained at 25-60‹ C., and a current density of 5-60 amps. per sq. ft. is employed. The electrolyte is agitated preferably by a combined horizontal and vertical oscillation of the cathode. Deposits may be made directly on brass, iron or steel. Chromium may be deposited over the alloy coatings.
