Abstract

460,963. Lamps with luminescent materials. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., JENKINS, H. G., and RYDE, J. W. Aug. 1, 1935, No. 21851. [Class 75 (ii)] A lamp comprises an approximately linear light source arranged along the axis of a reflector in the form of a surface of revolution and luminescent material confined to the lower part of the reflector so that the primary light from the source and the secondary light from the luminescent material are similarly distributed. The luminescent material may be fluorescent or phosphorescent and the light source may comprise a high pressure electric discharge lamp containing mercury vapour with or without cadmium or zinc vapour. The luminescent material may form a coating 4 for the lower part of the reflector 2, Fig. 1, or for the lower part of a transparent envelope 5 partially or wholly surrounding the light source 1, Fig. 2. The extreme lower ends of the reflector and envelope may be left uncoated. Specifications 401,846 ; and 460,850, [Group XL], are referred to.
