460,406. Refrigerating. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 23, 1936, No. 14634. Convention date, May 27, 1935. [Class 29] Compression machines and systems.-The air-cooled condenser of a machine having an enclosed motor-compressor unit and intended more particularly for domestic refrigerators comprises annular elements 13, 14 connected in series by a pipe 60 and each consisting of a pair of plates having grooves forming refrigerant passages therein. The elements are held together by a corrugated spring strip 30, and the assembly attached to the tapered motor-compressor casing 10 by U-shaped fins 31 in friction-tight contact with the casing and the outer element 14. A casing 33, secured to the outer element and projecting through a vertical gap between the ends of the inner element, contains control mechanism, operated by press-stops 39, 40, for setting the thermostat of the switch operating the compressor motor and regulating the supply of current to the motor. The casing 10 with the condenser attached thereto is welded in an aperture in a sheet-metal plate 48 forming the top of the cabinet which also includes heat-insulation 55 and a plate 50 from which depends the evaporator 12. In use, compressed vapour passes from the casing 10 to a D-sectioned tube 58 secured to the underside of the plate 48 and forming a precooler for the vapour, as described in Specification 459,653, and thence through a pipe 59 to the inner element 13 of the condenser. From the latter element, the vapour passes through a pipe 60 to the outer element 14, the condensate from which flows into a float chamber 62 having an outlet connection 63 to the evaporator. The connection is cooled by vapour returning through a squaresectioned pipe 68 wound thereon from the evaporator to the casing.
