459,543. Printing - machines. GILBERTSON, I. H., Woodlands, Manchester Old Road, Middleton, near Manchester. July 11, 1935, No. 19806. [Class 100 (ii)] Inking-apparatus.-A doctor for use in a printing-machine is mounted on a support or shear of angle or substantially L-section with stud holes therethrough which are higher at the centre portion of the support than towards the ends to permit of springing the doctor when clamping it down upon the studs passing through the holes. The support a, Fig. 6, is thickened and ribbed to provide a number of bosses b for the clamping-studs c, and two bosses for the usual doctor traversing rod connections. The doctor f is clamped by a plate e which bears on the doctor at one edge and on the support a at the other, the upper face of the plate e being shaped to provide a sloping surface, such as g, which directs any colour flowing off the doctor into the colour supply means. The two stud holes at the centre of the support a are placed slightly higher than the rest, and the doctor rests upon these centre studs at the higher level and is stressed down. wards at the opposite sides and clamped in this condition to give the desired rigidity to the doctor edge. The support a may have two sets of stud holes b at different heights so that after the doctor has worn to a predetermined extent, the studs may be placed in the set of holes near the upper edge of the support to permit further use of the doctor. The lint doctor, Fig. 8, has a trough k, for collecting colour and lint from the printing-roller, constituting part of the support a, and the clamping plate e is provided with bolts c.
