458,737. Drawing-mandrels. FAGERSTA BRUKS AKTIEBOLAG, Fagersta, Sweden. July 8, 1936, No. 18980. Convention date, July 10, 1935. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] A mandrel for tube-drawing has a wearing portion of a hard metal, a tapered part or plug on which is surrounded by the shank of the mandrel, and is secured thereto by shrinking and soldering. The hard metal may comprise carbides, silicides, nitrides, or borides of tungsten, molybdenum, titanium, or tantalum, high-speed steels, or cobalt-tungsten alloys. A hard-metal tip 6, Fig. 10, has flutes or threads on a tapered part 8 thereof which is secured within a corresponding recess in the shank 1, a bolt with a threaded end 9 further securing the assembly. A tip 6, Fig. 11, has a conical part 8 engaging in a recess in the shank 1. Modifications of the form of the extension 8 are described. Lubricating and cooling.-Grooves 10, Fig. 11, are formed in the mandrel for the passage of lubricant and coolant.
