Abstract

458,446. Switches held set and freed mechanically. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and SPARKES, H. H. J., Connaught House, Aldwych, London. June 21, 1935, No. 17891. [Class 38 (v)] A multi-way electric switch comprises a plurality of angularly-spaced pairs of contacts, one or both contacts of each pair being resiliently urged against the other and a rotatable insulating member adapted to separate different pairs of contacts at different angular positions of the insulating member. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, angularly-spaced pairs of spring contacts 3, 5 are mounted so that their free ends are opposite and are resiliently urged towards each other. Between these ends is rotated an insulating disc 7 formed with two diametrically-arranged holes. When these holes are between the free ends of opposite pairs of the contact springs the contact points spring into engagement to complete the corresponding circuit which may be one of a number of alternative loud-speaker supply circuits. On rotation of the disc by the knob 11, one set of contacts is separated and the next set allowed to come into contact when the next switching position is reached, the contact springs by bearing against the sides of the holes in the insulating disc acting as a positioning device for the switch-operating members.
