Abstract

457,576. Hinges. UNITED STATES RUBBER PRODUCTS, Inc., 1790, Broadway, New York, U.S.A. March 11, 1936, No. 7345. Convention date, March 13, 1935. [Class 65 (ii)] An oscillating joint, for example for a spring shackle, comprises a resilient bushing 16 interposed between and secured to inner and outer members 10, 12, and a metal ring flange 17 vulcanized within the bushing at each end thereof to resist axial flow of the rubber. The bushing is shown formed in two parts to facilitate assembly, and is vulcanized to both inner and outer members, the outer member 12 being a thin sleeve also formed in two parts and inserted into the spring eye 14. In a modification, the rings 17 are formed by end flanges of an intermediate metal sleeve embedded in the rubber, which thus forms separate bushings inside and outside the intermediate sleeve. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also a joint comprising two concentric one-piece rubber bushes, with an intermediate metal sleeve, placed between the inner and outer members, without any ring or flange to restrain the rubber ; the inner rubber bush abuts against the shackle links, and the outer member may be clamped within the spring eye. The rubber may be under sufficient compression to render vulcanization unnecessary. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
