Abstract
457,267. Spring motors. BROWN, E. C., 84, Sinclair Road, West Kensington, and HENLEY, A. M., 307, Goldhawk Road, Shepherd's Bush, both in London. Feb. 19, 1935, No. 5319. [Class 10] [See also Group XXXVIII] A gramophone motor of the kind which is wound by pulling out a cord comprises a disc E around the periphery of which the cord D is arranged and to which it is attached, the disc being mounted on a spindle E<1> which turns with it and tensions one or more longitudinallyextensible springs F, F<1>, which then rotate the spindle E<1> and cause it to rotate the turntable through gearing (not shown). A freewheel device in the gearing transmits the drive to the turntable only when the spindle is rotated by the springs. In the motor shown, the ends of the springs are attached to flexible wires f<1> secured to and wound around the spindle E<1>. The cord D passes through a rubber member D<2> which holds it frictionally to retain it in the groove formed in the edge of the disc E. Fig. 3 shows a construction in which the cord is rewound on the disc immediately after it has been pulled out, the disc being threaded on to the spindle E<1> so that it falls by its own weight when the cord has been withdrawn and simultaneously rotates so as to re-wind the cord on it. During operation of the motor the rotation of the spindle returns the disc to its upper position in readiness for the next re-winding of the motor.
