Abstract
Adhesive latex compositions are made by compounding at 50-70 DEG C., rubber latex, preferably of 60 per cent rubber content, with a concentrated solution of resinous matter in an organic solvent, e.g. benzol, benzene or trichlorethylene. The concentration of the solution is at least 50 per cent, preferably 60 per cent. The resinous matter may be rosin, ester gum, synthetic resin or resinified or oxidized rubber. When the latex is stabilized by casein, lime hydrate may be dissolved or dispersed in the resinous solution in amount sufficient to convert the casein to insoluble calcium caseinate. Rubber compounding ingredients and fillers may be added. If cork dust is added, the composition may form a linoleum cement. In an example 21 lbs. of ester gum and 8 lbs. of cumarone resin of melting point 125 DEG C. are dissolved in 17 lbs. of benzol and 17 lbs. of trichlorethylene and brought to an end weight of 88 lbs. Three pounds of the solution are mixed with 3--4 per cent of lime hydrate, warmed to 60 DEG C., and mixed with 8 lbs. of 60 per cent latex stabilized with 1\ba1/2\be lbs. of 10--20 per cent casein solution. During mixing the batch is warmed to 60 DEG C. The mixture may be thinned with 2--4 lbs. of warm water to a suitable consistency.ALSO:Adhesive latex compositions are made by compounding at 50-70 DEG C., rubber latex, preferably of 60 per cent rubber content, with a concentrated solution of resinous matter in an organic solvent, e.g. benzol, benzene or trichlorethylene.
