454,230. Endless - chain conveyers. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(Solar Laboratories ; Monaca, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) March 25, 1935, No. 9208. [Class 78 (i)] [See also Group XVII Bottles 16 to be printed by contact with a stencil-drum 35 are supported by cradles 15 carried by chains 14 travelling over sprockets 12, 13. Intermittent movement of the chains to bring each bottle in turn to the drum 35 is effected by a pawl 32 oscillated about the axis of the sprocket 12 by a link 30 connected to an arm 26 oscillated by a cam 25 fixed to a rotary shaft 23. The drum 35 is rotated during the rest periods of the conveyer through a clutch 51 thrown in by a rod 53 connected to a bell-crank 54 oscillated by a cam 56 on the shaft 23. The bell crank also moves a chuck end 43 inwardly to press the bottle against a co-operating member 44 and simultaneously to raise the bottle off its cradle, and the member 44 is rotated through the clutch 51 to rotate the bottle. Where tapered surfaces are to be dealt with, either the article or the stencil drum is tilted, and in the case of oval bottles, printing is effected on the narrow curved edges. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the bottle is supported at an inclination by chuck members similar to those of Fig. 2, and the shoulder portion of the bottle is printed on by means of a stencil carried by a frusto-conical drum the axis of which is inclined.
