Abstract
454,152. Bomb - dropping hooks. STANFIELD, J. R. M., 8, Barnfield, Weston Lane, Woolston, Southampton. Feb. 20, 1935, No. 5501. [Class 9 (ii)] [See also Group XXV] Relates to a hook of the kind described in Specification 350,579 in which two claw-like members are pivotally mounted on a support, the lower ends of the members co-operating in the closed position to support the load, and wherein their upper ends are held apart in the closed position of the hook by toggle compression links, which are released by the sliding of a catch member between the links. According to the invention, the toggle links 8 lie past the dead-centre line in the closed position of the hook, and the catch member 9, which is guided between rollers 10, is adapted to be positively moved to cause the links to cross the dead centre by the movement of a plunger 13 moving in the same vertical line as the catch 9. The amount by which the toggle system can cross the dead-centre line is determined by an adjustable screwed sleeve 12 fitted in the top portion of the carrier 1. In a modification (not shown), the claw members may have a common pivot and release is effected by a toggle-breaking plunger actuated by the energizing of a solenoid.
