Abstract
453,386. Pipe couplings. CORNELL, E. S., 17, Campbell Lane, Larchmont, New York, U.S.A. Oct. 28, 1935, No. 29752. Convention date, Oct. 30, 1934. [Class 99 (i)] An elbow or like pipe fitting made of coldwrought non-ferrous metal, particularly copper, and having a body portion of a wall thickness incapable of bearing a usual pipe thread is provided with an integral end portion of wall thickness greater than that of the body portion so that it may take a screw thread satisfactorily. An elbow 10 is formed with a thickened end 11 such that after cutting a screw thread 12 the metal at the bottom of the thread is at least as thick as that of the main portion of the elbow. The other end of the elbow consists of a plain sleeve 13 adapted for telescopic sweat-joint connection with a pipe &c. and is enlarged to ensure unrestricted flow through the elbow. The end 13 may be externally screw-threaded like the end 11, or it may be internally screw-threaded; also, one end may be enlarged and internally screw-threaded and the other either similar or plain like the sleeve 13.
