453,328. Spring-balances. EXACT WEIGHT SCALE CO., 944, West 5th Avenue, Columbus, Ohio, U.S.A. Jan. 27, 1936, No. 2528. Convention date, Jan. 26, 1935. [Class 143] A pocket weighing-scale having the appearance of a fountain pen or a pencil comprises a hollow casing 1, a coil spring 16 supported by a vertically-adjustable screw 11, a clip 21 or other member for supporting a letter or other article to be weighed, and a nut 14 with ears 15 projecting between the convolutions of the spring so that the effective length of the spring may be varied. The clip is suspended from the spring by a calibrated strip 17 preferably rectangular in cross-section and slidable without rotation through a similar opening in the casing. The downward movement is limited by a stop 17a- A knob 10 formed on the screw 11 may be rotated to move the spring and calibrated strip bodily in a vertical direction for zero adjustment. A cap 7, when afterwards applied, bears upon the knob 10 and retains it in adjusted position. A cap 27 is placed over the lower end of the device before placing the same in the pocket.
