Abstract
453,086. Road and rail vehicle bodies. STAUNTON, P. M., Aram Lodge, Castlerea, Roscommon, Irish Free State. Nov. 23, 1935, No. 32494. [Classes 103 (iv) and 108 (i)] The upper surfaces of road and rail vehicle bodies are formed with a series of projections whereby, when the vehicle is travelling, the air pressure on these surfaces is diminished. The projections are of various forms and may be formed on sheets of aluminium or other suitable material which may be secured in desired position on the roof or bonnet. In Fig. 1, the projections are in the form of teeth 1 arranged on a sheet the forward edge 3 of the teeth being inclined to deflect the air current. The upper surface of the sheet may be curved in order to shed the rain &c. while the undersurfaces is shaped to correspond with the contour of the vehicle body. Figs. 2 and 3 show another form of projections the part 2 of the teeth being directed forwardly and the roots 3 of the teeth being partially filled in. In another form the teeth may be bramble shaped. A sliding panel may be provided so that any desired amount of the toothed surface may be exposed.
